LCY Lock-in

The LCY is having a Lock-in at the church starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3^rd. Bring your sleeping bag, pillow, blankets, or whatever you need to sleep on. Please bring a snack to share with everyone. You can also bring games, puzzles, Wii games, or anything else you would like to do. We will also be making blankets to hand out to the Boys Farm. Pick up time is 9:30am Saturday morning! Donuts and juice will be provided for breakfast. It’s going to be lots of fun, so please plan to join us on February 3^rd!

Come celebrate the beginning of the Lenten season by enjoying a pancake supper. On Tuesday, February 21st we will celebrate the Lenten season by enjoying a pancake supper from 6:00—7:00 p.m.

Cost: $3.00 adults

$2.00 children 5-12 years old

Free—children up to 4 years old

Please come and join us for fellowship as we observe the centuries old Shrove Tuesday tradition.

Baskets of Promise Campaign

This Lenten season, the St. Paul congregation will be joining Lutheran World Relief’s Baskets of Promise appeal. Each week, we’ll collect a different item to fill “School Kits” that give children essential items to learn and work toward a better future. You may place your items in a box at the front or back of the church. On our Lenten journey, let’s be witnesses of Christ’s abundant love by participating in this special project.

St. Paul Hymnfest February 12th

ST. PAUL WILL be holding an old-time hymnfest, Sunday afternoon, February 12th at 4:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to come together for about an hour and join together to sing our favorite hymns. Afterward, we will gather for a light meal. Everyone is asked to bring a food item to share. Plan to come and join in this good time of song and food.

Ash Wednesday Service

The Season of Lent begins with our Ash Wednesday service February 22nd at 7:30 p.m. Weekly Lenten services will be held Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m.

Lent is a season of personal reflection and repentance. It is a time for prayerfully pondering the brokenness of our lives and turning back to God. As you look ahead, make it your aim to attend all of our weekly Lenten Services.

Super Bowl Sunday

February 5^th is Souperbowl Sunday! The LCY would like to invite everyone downstairs after church on Feb. 5^th for soup and sandwiches. The youth will be at each exit collecting dollar donations to be given to our local food bank to help fight hunger in our community. We hope that you will join us!

LCY Christmas Caroling

Our LCY will be Christmas Caroling to the Golden Agers on December 16th and 17th. The December newsletter lists approximate times they will be coming to sing and bring Christmas treats to Golden Agers’ homes.

Christmas Cantata

During the 11:00 worship hour on Sunday, December 11th, the St. Paul’s choir will present its Christmas Cantata. The choir has been working hard on this beautiful selection of music, so please plan to be present as we glory in the birth of Christ our Lord and Savior.

Heartland Conference School of Religion

On Tuesday evenings in January Grace Lutheran Church is hosting the 18th Annual Heartland Conference Lay School of Religion. Sponsored by the Heartland Conference Lutheran Churches, it meets from 7:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Prosperity. Cost is $10 for the four nights. Youth are admitted free. Registration forms can be found in the church secretary’s box. Classes will be held January 3, 10, 17, and 24th.

Poinsettias

For the beauty of our church at Christmas we are ordering poinsettias at the cost of $6 per plant. Information and money must be given to Carolyn Richardson no later than Sunday, November 27th, 2011. Make checks payable to St. Paul WELCA. For those who would prefer to give a memorial to the building fund instead, any amount may be given. Make checks payable to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund and give information and money to Carolyn Richardson no later than Sunday, December 11, 2011. The information will be published in the bulletin at Christmas.

Angel Tree

We will be supporting foster children in Newberry County by adopting them for Christmas. An Angel Tree will be in the Cry Room with some of these children’s names on it. A list of items will be with each name. Place unwrapped gifts in a large bag and secure the assigned application number on the bag. Please place these gifts in the Adult Bible Class by December 4th, 2011. Contact Carolyn Richardson if you have questions.

Children’s Christmas Program

The Children’s Christmas Program will be Sunday, December 11th at 6:00 p.m. Sign up sheets are posted on both bulletin boards. Practices will be Sunday, November 27th and Sunday, December 4th at 6:00 p.m. We look forward to a simple program this year with many children participating.

Church Pictoral Directory

A church pictoral directory is being planned. Olan Mills will be photographing the directory on Thursday, October 6th from 2:00 pm to 9:30pm; Friday, October 7th from 2:00 pm until 9:30 pm; Saturday, October 8th from 9:30 am until 5:30 pm; and Tuesday, November 1st from 2:00 pm until 9:30 pm. Each family photographed will receive one complimentary 8 x 10 custom portrait. We hope everyone will make an appointment to be photographed for our 250th Anniversary Directory. Appointments will be made at the church and by phone starting September 11th. Call Carolyn Richardson for more information (276.2947).

Homecoming

Homecoming at St. Paul will be October 9th. As part of our continuing celebration of St Paul’s 250th Anniversary, our guest pastor this year will be the Reverend Dr. Hermon Yoos, Bishop of the SC Synod. We hope everyone will plan to attend this celebration.

10 Commandments Bible Study

Red Cross Blood Drive Oct. 4th

BBQ Lunch, Old Time Sunday on July 24th

St. Paul is hosting Old Time Sunday on July 24th and following the service there will be a BBQ meal. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children. Hash is $6.50/qt. and take out plates are $7. The buffet menu includes chicken, rice, Carold Wicker’s and Debbie Werts’ hash, homemade cole slaw, bread, pickles, tea, and dessert. Church members can contact Carold and Judy Wicker or Paul and Debbie Werts 364.9345 for tickets. Any money made from the BBQ sale will go to publishing the St. Paul 250th Anniversary book, maintenance of our cemetery, and the completion of our picnic shelter/playground area.

Lutheran Men Father’s Day observance

Sunday, June 19th, is Father’s Day. St. Paul Lutheran Men in Mission once again is accepting free will donations from people wishing to have recognition of fathers placed in a bulletin insert that Sunday. Donations will be used to support mission congregations in our synod. The Deadline for submitting the form that was in the May newsletter is June 13th.

Holy Week Services

Please join us this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for Maundy Thursday worship with Holy Communion. The homily will be on the final words of Christ from the cross, “Father, into your hands I commit my Spirit.”

On Friday, April 22nd we invite you to join us for our Good Friday Service of Tenebrae at 7:30 p.m. Please plan to be present at these worship services during the most sacred week of the church year.

Our Easter sunrise service will be at 7:00 a.m. and be followed by breakfast served by our Lutheran Men in Mission. Sunday school will follow at 9;45 a.m. and regular worship will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Clothing Drive for people in the low country of South Carolina

The Social Ministry Committee is sponsoring a clothing drive for good, used, clean clothing. They can also use linens. Items should be brought to the basement of the education building between April 25th and May 8th. The items will be taken to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia to be distributed to the needy in the low country of South Carolina.

Supply drive for Lutheran Church retreat centers

In support of Lutheran Church retreat centers, we encourage every woman to donate cleaning supplies, paper products or gift cards. Collection boxes are in the narthex and the Sunday School building. The Lunch Bunch will deliver our donations on April 18th. Please drop your donations off at the church by April 17th.
